One person can start a chain reaction . . .

About ten years ago, Freddie met Ana-Maria when he was adopting a rescue dog, and he and Ana-Maria became fast friends. When he learned that she was on dialysis and desperately needed a kidney, he volunteered his partner, Dave, believing Dave was the same blood type.

It turned out that Dave and Ana-Maria’s blood were not a match, but Freddie’s was! One year later, Freddie donated a kidney giving her the gift of leading a normal, happy life for the time she had remaining (she passed on year later of an unrelated illness). Freddie has no regrets.

About one year ago, a friend and client of Freddie’s, a Winnipeg travel agent, needed a kidney transplant. Knowing how important it was to reach a broad audience, Freddie posted in his monthly newsletter, and ultimately a retired travel agent in BC came forward to help. Awareness is a common theme among kidney recipients and donors. It’s powerful thing, to give a better quality of life to another human being.
